His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah

Kuwait Cabinet named Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Amir of the State of Kuwait on Saturday, December 16, 2023, succeeding the late Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah

His Highness the late Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued an Amiri order to delegate some of the Amir’s constitutional powers to His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Monday, November 15, 2021, due to His Highness’s health conditions.

His Highness the late Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued an Amiri decree on October 8,2020 nominating Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah the Crown Prince, and the National Assembly pledged allegiance to His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as the Crown Prince

His Highness was born on September 27, 1940.

His Highness grew up in the ruling house, as he is the seventh son of the late Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and a brother of three rulers of Kuwait, the late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the late Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the late Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

His Highness received his education at Al-Mubarakiya School, which was one of the first schools in Kuwait.

His Highness enrolled in Hendon Police College in the United Kingdom and graduated in 1960.

An Amiri decree No. (12/2004) was issued on April17,2004 to appoint Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah the Deputy Chief of Kuwait National Guard with the rank of Minister until he became the Crown Prince.

After His Highness’s graduation from Hendon Police College in 1960, he joined the Ministry of Interior where he held several positions until he became the Head of the General Investigations with the rank of Colonel in 1967 and held the position until 1980. During his tenure, the name of this institution was changed to the State Security Service.

Appointed by the late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah the Head of “Al-Nabat” Poets Diwaniya in 1977.

Awarded the “Legion of Honor” by the President of the French Republic on December 4, 2018. (during his tenure as Deputy Chief of Kuwait National Guard)

Awarded “King Abdulaziz Medal” by the Saudi Crown Prince on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. On January 30, 2024.

Awarded "Al Said Order", Oman's highest Accolade, by His Majesty Sultan Haithm Bin Tarek, on February 6, 2024.

His Highness’s efforts were clear in developing the State Security Service and its personnel.

During his tenure as Deputy Chief, the National Guard witnessed significant development leading to its excellence in carrying out its duties, backing up the Ministries of Defense, Interior and General Fire Force in defending and maintaining the country’s security and stability.

The Diwan of the Deputy Chief of the National Guard was awarded “Jaber for Quality” Prize and the ISO Certificate.

The National Guard succeeded in defining three strategic roles through five-year strategic plans: (2010-2015) “Security is the basis of development”, (2015-2020) “Security First” and (2020-2025) “Protection and support”.

The National Guard equipped qualified and trained technical employees with experience to deal with exceptional circumstances using developed technology. The National Guard concluded several cooperation protocols with different institutions in the country to provide help when needed.

The National Guard played an effective role in responding to the rain crisis in 2018, in confronting radioactive leakage in oil facilities and in supporting the General Fire Force in combating some major accidents, also its participation with the relevant authorities facing the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19).

At the regional and international level, the National Guard concluded cooperation agreements with different countries, in order to present the State of Kuwait in the International Association of Gendarmeries and Police Forces (FIEP).
