Located in the north-east corner of the Arabian Peninsula, Kuwait is one of the smallest countries in the world in terms of land area. The flat, sandy Arabian Desert covers most of Kuwait. Kuwait is the only country in the world which has no natural lake or water reservoir. There is little difference in the country's altitude with the highest point in the country being 306 m above sea-level.

Kuwait City is located on Kuwait Bay, a natural deep-water harbor.

FAILAKA

Failaka Island The island is 20 km off the coast of Kuwait City in the Persian Gulf.

BUBIYAN ISLAND

Failaka Island Bubiyan Island is the largest island in the Kuwaiti coastal island chain with an area of 863 km2.

WARBAH ISLAND

Failaka Island Total area of 37 square kilometers. The island is essentially a large mud flat.

AUHAH ISLAND

Failaka Island It is 800 meters long by 540 meters wide . Apart from a light-house and a small heliport, the island is mainly uninhabited.

KUBBAR ISLAND

Failaka Island Kubbar island is located roughly 30 kilometers off the southern coast of Kuwait . It is sandy, with low coasts and sparsely vegetated. The island is inhabited by various forms of wildlife. Kubbar is surrounded by coral reefs, and is therefore popular with scuba divers.

MISKAN ISLAND

Failaka Island Miskan Island is a small, uninhabited island . It is about 1.2 kilometers long and 800 meters wide.

QARUH ISLAND

Failaka Island Qaruh an island which received its name from the large amounts of petroleum sediments in the area (known as Qar in Arabic). It is the smallest of the nine islands.

UMM AL MARADIM (Translation: Mother of boulders)

Failaka Island The island is 1.5 kilometers in length and 540 meters wide . it is known to have deep waters surrounding it, in which large ships can safely anchor.

UMM AL NAMIL (Translation: Mother of ants)

Located within Kuwait Bay. It is known to be the site of several archeological finds, mainly from the Islamic era, and the bronze age..

Kuwait is divided into six governorates

  • Al Asimah: "the capital" in Arabic. It houses most of Kuwait's Centers governance and government, financial and business centers .also consists of islands of Failaka, Miskan, and Auhah.
  • Hawalli: As of 31/12/2007 Hawalli population is estimated to be 714,876 , from different nationalities .
  • Al Ahmadi : forms an important part of Kuwaiti economy as several of Kuwait's oil refineries are located there. It was named for the tenth ruler of Kuwait late Sheikh Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah .
  • Al Farwaniyah : is the largest of the six governorate, in terms of total number of residents.
  • Al Jahra : It includes the island of Bubiyan and is by far the largest governorate in Kuwait. It also contains most of Kuwait's arable land
  • Mubarak Al-Kabeer : It was formed in 2000 when the Hawalli governorate was split in two. It has about 180,000 residents.

The governorates are subdivided into districts.

Kuwait has a warm tropical climate. Summer, which last from April to September, is extremely hot and dry with temperatures easily crossing 45°C (113 °F) during daytime. Winter season, from November through February, is cool with some precipitation and average temperatures around 13°C (56 °F) with extremes from -2°C to 27°C. Annual rainfall averages less than 127 mm and occurs chiefly between October and April. The spring season in March is warm and pleasant with occasional thunderstorms. The frequent winds from the northwest are cool in winter and spring and hot in summer. Southeasterly winds, usually hot and damp, spring up between July and October; hot and dry south winds prevail in spring and early summer. The shamal, a northwesterly wind common during June and July, causes dramatic sandstorms.

Islam is the official religion of the State of Kuwait. However, Christians and many other religious minorities enjoy complete religious freedom in Kuwait.

According to the 2005 census, the population stands at approximately 3 million. This represents an increase of 8.6% compared to the previous year when the population was recorded at 2,750,000.

A report, produced by the Ministry of Planning in 2005, found that there were 992,000 Kuwaiti nationals, a 3.8% increase in comparison to 2004.

It consists of the shield of the flag design in color superimposed on a falcon with wings displayed. The falcon supports a disk containing a sailing ship (dhow) with the full name of the State written (in Arabic) at the top of the disk.

  • Independence Day: From the United Kingdom, June , 19,1961 , but Kuwaitis celebrate in February, 25th, which is the day in which late sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Al Sabah, the eleventh ruler of Kuwait, took the reins of leadership .
  • Liberation Day: February 26th, after liberating Kuwait from Iraqi invasion.

The Dinar is the currency of Kuwait. It is sub-divided into 1000 fils. It is the highest valued currency unit in the world.
